Quali sono le procedure più utilizzate dal chirurgo plastico?

The procedures adopted by the Plastic Surgeon may  differ depending on conditions to be treated. The most common techniques are represented by grafts, flaps and implants.

  • A graft is a piece of tissue that is detached from its site of origin (e.g. abdomen) and transferred to a different site, called recipient bed (e.g. arm)
  • A flap is a piece of tissue that keeps a connection (called pedicle) with donor site and is transferred to the recipient area which must necessarily be adjacent to donor site.
  • Implants are used for different purposes, usually for congenital or acquired deformity correction. The best-known implants are breast prosthesis, however similar devices can be adopted for calf, gluteus and cheekbone. Besides, external prostheses can be used, among which the best known are used for nose and ear replacement.​​

It is recommended to schedule a visit with the Plastic Surgeon when congenital or acquired defects (caused by past surgery, diseases, trauma, injuries) need treatment or when postoperative course requires monitoring.
